Phase 2 Foods for Modern and Classic Approach

HCG Diet Chicken Won TonThe HCG diet program has quickly grown to be the #1 weight loss treatment in the world, and it’s clear why this is so. Most people who use the treatment are able to quickly and effectively shed pounds and keep them off in the long term. Despite the fact that there is no FDA approval for HCG as a weight loss treatment, users still swear by the results. Thousands of studies have shown the program to be an effective weight loss treatment, offering users up to 20 kilograms of weight loss within a single short regimen. Additionally, recent research has indicated that further benefits exist from the use of this simple hormone, including significant insulin stabilization in diabetics or when users have thyroid conditions, allowing them to shed weight put on from this.

There are two major choices with regards to methods for the HCG Diet program.  Classically, Dr. Simeons created a 3 or 4 phase program that has been long held as the gold standard.  Yet, recent research actually has shown that a higher calorie, wider variety diet may generate better results, with a much easier to stick to program.

Dr. Simeons Original Approach

The original HCG diet program prescribed a fairly strict set of foods that could be eaten during the program, along with at least 150 IUs of the HCG hormone 5 days a week.  This program lasted from 23-43 days, and this was thought to prevent immunities/tolerances that build up to the HCG.  The maximum daily caloric intake on Dr. Simeons program is 500 calories.  Most vegetables and fruits are strictly prohibited in the original program.

We have included a nearly comprehensive list below so that it’s clear where the limitations of this approach lie.

FRUIT – one fruit per meal

  • Apple
  • Grapefruit
  • Orange
  • Strawberries


  • Melba Toast
  • Melba Snack
  • Grissini Breadstick

MEAT – 100 grams with all visible fat removed; weighed raw; cook with no oil or fat:

  • Chicken Breast
  • Ground Beef: 95% lean or higher
  • Steak
  • Crab
  • Halibut
  • Cod
  • Flounder
  • Tilapia
  • Lobster
  • Shrimp
  • Veal

As you can see, the choices are not only limited, but quite difficult to stick to. Various fruits and vegetables that have been known for years to be effective and great for weight loss are prohibited in the classic approach.  Raspberries, for instance, are fantastic anti-oxidants and can even provide weight loss on their own, but are not allowed.

The Modern HCG Diet

The modern approach to the program, sometimes called the OWL diet, actually changes this significantly.  A lot of research has been recently done on this topic, in an attempt to find the best and most effective weight loss methods.  However, the modern method has been well studied, and is a culmination of various resources that have tested its effectiveness with the HCG diet program.  Most people who use HCG lose weight quickly, but those doing this approach actually lose the same amount of weight, and reported much less difficult progress as they went along.

Rather than the traditional 500 calories per day, people may select up to 700 calories per day, including an additional 50 grams of protein along with every meal.  This was found to keep the starvation reflex in the body’s metabolism from activating, and causing long term plateaus in the weight loss.  Additionally, nearly all fruits and vegetables are allowed in Phase 2, rather than the limited range above.  Only corn, potatoes, avocados, and rice are prohibited (along with a handful of fruits that are high in carbs).  This allows for a much wider variety of choices during the program and people are able to select precisely which foods they wish to eat.  As a result of this, the modern approach is the one most of our users undertake.  It’s a highly successful, and easier choice than Dr. Simeons original HCG weight loss method.
